Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about HLTAID011 first aid training, certification, and workplace requirements

How long is the HLTAID011 certificate valid?
The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. However, the CPR component (HLTAID009) requires annual renewal. This means you must complete a CPR refresher course every 12 months to maintain full compliance with Safe Work Australia guidelines, even though your HLTAID011 certificate remains valid for 3 years.
Does HLTAID011 include CPR certification?
Yes! HLTAID011 includes HLTAID009 (Provide CPR) as a core component. Upon successful completion, you receive TWO certificates: HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (valid 3 years) and HLTAID009 Provide CPR (valid 12 months). Both are nationally recognised Statements of Attainment issued under RTO 32154.
What's the difference between HLTAID011 and HLTAID009?
HLTAID009 is CPR only (2 hours, $45), covering cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED use. HLTAID011 is comprehensive first aid (6 hours, $95), including CPR plus wound management, burns, fractures, medical emergencies, and full emergency response. HLTAID011 is required for workplace first aid officers, while HLTAID009 alone is insufficient for most workplace compliance.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
Participants must be at least 14 years old. Those under 18 require written parental or guardian consent. This age requirement ensures participants have the physical strength for CPR compressions and emotional maturity for emergency response scenarios. Most workplace roles requiring first aid certification also have minimum age requirements (typically 18+).
Do you offer group discounts for workplaces?
Yes! We provide competitive group rates for workplace teams, schools, and organizations. For groups of 5+ participants, we can deliver on-site training at your premises anywhere in Queensland and surrounding regions. This eliminates travel time and allows site-specific scenario training. Contact us at 1300 766 298 or email info@givefirstaid.au for custom group pricing and scheduling.
How many workplace first aiders do I need?
Safe Work Australia recommends at least one trained first aider for every 50 workers in low-risk workplaces, or one per 25 workers in high-risk environments. Factors include workplace size, hazard level, location, shift patterns, and worker distribution. Your state WHS regulator may have specific requirements. Contact us for a free workplace first aid assessment.
What should I bring to the course?
Bring comfortable clothing suitable for kneeling and floor exercises, current photo ID (driver's license or passport), and your Unique Student Identifier (USI). We can help you obtain a free USI if you don't have one. Wear closed-toe shoes for safety. All training materials, manikins, bandages, AED trainers, and equipment are provided. Water and light refreshments recommended for the 6-hour session.
How quickly will I receive my certificate?
You'll receive digital Statements of Attainment for both HLTAID011 and HLTAID009 via email within 2-4 hours of successfully completing the course. These digital certificates are fully valid and accepted by all Australian employers immediately. Physical certificates can be mailed within 5-7 business days at no additional cost. All qualifications are registered on the national USI system.
Can I claim this training as a tax deduction?
If your first aid training is required for your current employment or maintains/improves skills needed for your current job, it may be tax-deductible as a self-education expense. Keep your receipt and certificate as evidence. Consult the Australian Tax Office or your tax accountant for specific advice on your circumstances.
